Overview

A freestanding ER in Longview, TX is seeking a Culinary Services Line Cook to join their team. The Culinary Services Line Cook will strive to provide proficient, competent care.

Responsibilities for the Culinary Services Line Cook

  1. Cleaning and sanitizing work areas, equipment, utensils, and dishes.
  2. Preparing hot food, including accompaniments and garnishes.
  3. Following preparation guide and provided recipes, prepare hot entrees, soups and vegetables for dining room service, healthcare center, cafeteria, and special functions.
  4. Setting up workstation with sufficient product & utensils and prepares cooking & food holding equipment to ensure station is ready for meal service.
  5. Preparing food in advance as indicated.
  6. Arranging eye‐appealing, tasty food items following recipes provided for preparation and plate service of hot food.
  7. Completing food temperature checks for each meal.
  8. Tasting all food items prepared.
  9. Completing preparation records and stores food items properly at close of meal service.
  10. Cleaning work area and equipment used in food preparation.
  11. Take necessary precautions and follow correct procedures for lifting and bending.
  12. Complying with federal, state, and local health and sanitation regulations and department sanitation procedures as evidenced through local health department and third‐party audits.
  13. Ensuring that all hot food preparation and assembling is done in accordance with established procedures.
  14. Multitasking and allocating time appropriately for multiple different orders.
  15. . Maintaining cleanliness and working order of work area, tools, equipment, and supplies.
  16. Assisting with evacuations of residents to a safe location in the event of fire or other emergency.
  17. Communicating with supervisor when equipment or systems are not working properly or of any safety hazards.

Requirements and Qualifications for the Culinary Services Line Cook

  • Knowledge of food preparation and handling techniques.
  • General knowledge of safety and sanitation rules and practices.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of fire safety procedures.
  • Ability to work in high volume, high stress environment.
  • Critical thinking skills: ability to work autonomously and make efficient use of time and resources.
  • Must be a minimum of eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Demonstrated competency of Physical Assessment within 90 days, as evaluated by Culinary Services Manager.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity to operate a fire extinguisher and to manipulate kitchen equipment, including slicer, chopper, processor, knives, etc.
  • Ability to get along well with others; demonstrates a high level of sensitivity and interest in people, especially older adults.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Ability to use simple math concepts.
  • Food Handler’s Permit required and kept current.
  • Previous cooking/food service experience, preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
